Here is another lively collection of tunes popular in southern English traditional music sessions to follow 'The Lewes Favourites'. Andy Warburton has gathered more tunes which are currently being shared and enjoyed by musicians in Sussex and beyond. He includes many unpublished tunes from the seminal Sussex Anglo concertina player, Scan Tester (1886-1972), notated by ear from the mercurial playing of Will Duke, who owns one of Scan's instruments. He has also notated six tunes from the Australian fiddle player Charlie Batchelor (1897-1984) and local variants of some of the more quirky and complicated tunes now at large in the wild. The book is illustrated by Andy's fine photographs of Sussex musicians at play, usually on licensed premises, and of the pubs which welcome them and their music. Andy had almost completed the new collection when he became terminally ill. So that his work should not be lost, Bryan Creer and Valmai Goodyear of Lewes Saturday Folk Club have published it as it stands, and are immensely grateful to Andy's daughter Ruth for the difficult task of retrieving it from her father's computer.
Because the manuscript could not be edited, an on-line page for errata has been created. The tunes will be made available in midi form from an adjacent web page.
